01 / ABOUT ME

From curiosity
to my own Linux distro.

Hi, I’m Szymon. Online, I go by Ergenos.

I came up with Ergenos while playing around with Sindarin, one of the Elvish languages from Tolkien’s world. I was going for the idea of a lone stone fortress. The linguistics might be debatable, but I liked the sound of it, and it stuck. Eventually, it started finding its way into my project names too.

Linux, games and personal projects are the three things that tend to come together in my workspace. I like figuring out how a system works, what I can change and how to make it fit everyday use. That curiosity led me to build ErgenOS - my own Arch Linux-based distribution - and tools to help manage it.

I learn by doing: setting things up, testing them and tracking down problems on my own hardware. ErgenLab is part of that - a ThinkPad I gave a second life as a home server and a place to experiment.

Games are just as much a part of all this. World of Warcraft is a particular favorite, and playing on Linux brings my interests in systems and gaming together. That’s where ErgenProton-WoW and ManyTongues, a WoW addon, come in. I also do game playtesting, looking at games both as a player and as someone testing how they work.

I’m learning to code and developing my ideas step by step. My distro, tools and gaming projects give me a reason to keep learning and put that knowledge into practice. This site brings that part of my world together.
